What
are your qualifications and credentials?
My academic background is an
M.S. in scientific and technological imaging from Brooks
Institute (2016), an M.A. in education in new media design and
production, and a B.A. in art. I've also completed specific
additional coursework in architectural photography, as well as
specialized studies in 3D modeling and digital environment
development.
My career in imaging started as a commercial photographer and
senior image-processing technician for Teledyne Systems
Company, and then as a wedding photographer. After programming
early computer games, and working as the art director on the
first video game by MTV/Viacom, I ran a boutique graphic
design consultancy for 10 years, which included product
photography, magazine ad development, brand collateral, and
training. Turning exclusively to photographic and
computational imaging, my most recent projects are for
commercial real estate and creative clients.
What
are the services you offer?
The following services are
available individually, or combined in one project:
- Individual 360º panorama creation.
- Multiple 360º panoramas linked into a tour.
- 360º visual rotations of objects.
- High resolution 2D still photography.
- Consulting on the implementation of 360º imaging.
How
can these presentation formats be shared?
This question has a multipart
answer...
A single panorama is a single image file. It can be uploaded
to social media that supports panoramas, it can be displayed
on a webpage of its own as part of a website, it can be
embedded within a website page for viewing (much as is done on
this site), and it can be converted into a small stand-alone
program file that can be emailed and then viewed by the
recipient.
A panoramic tour has multiple image files and may contain
additional embedded content, such as videos or text-based
information. Such a product needs to be run from a platform
that supports 360º tours, such as any website hosting service.
Social media can then also link to a tour that is hosted. A
tour can be displayed on a webpage of its own or it can be
embedded within a website page for viewing (much as is done on
this site). Tours can also be converted into a stand-alone
program file to be viewed by the recipient.
An object rotation is a set of images that are displayed
sequentially, like a short video. If those images are retained
as individual files, they can be displayed on a webpage of
their own or they can be embedded within a website page for
viewing (much as is done on this site). If the images are
converted to a .gif file, that single file can be displayed in
all places a .gif file is supported, such as a Web browser.
As you can see, options for 360º image viewing methods are
versatile. Consultation on the technical implementation of
these presentation formats is available before and after
product creation.
Can
audio and video be added to these products?
Yes, for individual 360
panoramas and for virtual tours.
A button to enable or mute audio can be included to give the
persons viewing the tour control over that aspect of the
presentation.
Video is usually accessed within a tour through the activation
of a hotspot.
Can
tours be updated over time?
Yes. Note that tours are created
with specialized software, which is not included with the
tour. Therefore, modifications to a tour can either be ordered
from this service, or the post-processed project files will be
provided, and the client can make changes, contingent on
possessing and having proficiency in the tour making software.
Do you
provide raw image files?
No. Raw image files are the
original captures and are essentially digital 'negatives'.
These images are not suitable for direct display. The
post-processing phase of a project creates the final form of
the images, and those are then delivered to the client.
Do
your individual 360 panoramas, 360 virtual tours and 360
object imaging require a subscription?
No. The imaging products created
by this service are provided subscription-free. You can add
them to your website or provide them to clients directly. If,
however, you desire to have your deliverables hosted
separately for convenience and simplicity, such services are
available in the marketplace.
How is
your service different than Matterport?
Matterport is a subscription
service that retains all productions on their servers. While
you may link to your virtual tours on the Matterport service,
you cannot download or retain them on a local computer or on a
different Web host. The deliverables from my service can be
hosted on the system of your choice. In fact, standalone
virtual tours are possible, that will run on any modern
computer.
Photographers, versus Matterport camera operators, prefer
access to their images because they want to personally control
the quality of the final results. If I retain control of the
virtual tour process from start to finish, you can be assured
of meticulous and specific quality characteristics. So, for
example, I can control the color management of all media when
I create a virtual tour of an art gallery. I capture
high-resolution high dynamic range still images from the best
vantage points, rather than cropping out still shots from a
tour.
My methods do not produce a 'dollhouse' view. And if you need
BIM integration with your virtual productions, Matterport is
an appropriate choice to consider. The productions made here
are based on spherical panoramas and do not result in a 3D
model. Note, however, that 360º renders from CAD-based
programs can be combined into a virtual tour.
What
precautions do you take regarding COVID-19?
CDC guidelines are followed.
